Baghdad International Energy Forum: Iraq’s Energy Dialogue Platform

The Baghdad International Energy Forum (BIEF) is Iraq’s premier platform for international energy dialogue, organized by the Ministry of Oil and the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO). Scheduled for 6–7 September 2025 in Baghdad, the forum brings together policymakers, energy executives, and thought leaders to address the most pressing challenges in the global energy landscape.

Organizers and Strategic Partners

The event is held under the patronage of SOMO, with institutional partnerships including the Tomorrow Risk Management Foundation and the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue. These collaborations aim to provide a professional environment for knowledge exchange and investment opportunities.

Global Participation

BIEF 2025 will feature opening remarks by Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC, alongside Iraqi officials and global energy leaders. The participation of OPEC, the International Energy Forum (IEF), and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) highlights the strategic weight of the event. Leading market intelligence providers such as Argus, S&P Global Platts, Kepler, Energy Intelligence, and Energy Aspects will contribute their expertise.

Furthermore, high-level delegations from BP, TotalEnergies, Chevron, Eni, and Shell are confirmed to attend, reflecting the global industry’s strong engagement with Iraq’s energy future.

Key Themes and Agenda

The program will address critical topics including:

  • The future of global oil markets

  • The energy transition and pathways to sustainability

  • Regional and international energy security

  • The role of technology and artificial intelligence in oil and gas

  • Infrastructure investment and Iraq’s position as a bridge between producers and consumers

By facilitating discussions on these themes, the forum aligns Iraq with international efforts to balance energy security with sustainable development.

Iraq’s Strategic Role

The BIEF is more than a conference; it is a declaration of Iraq’s intent to position itself as a regional hub for energy dialogue and investment. The forum reflects the country’s commitment to openness, international cooperation, and supporting the stability of global energy markets.

Participation and Registration

The Ministry of Oil, through SOMO’s official website, has provided an online registration portal for stakeholders interested in attending the Baghdad International Energy Forum 2025.
